Craig Fell & John Thomson, the Founders of KURO Gin, have been good friends for over a decade. Craig is a Graphic Designer who had the pleasure if working with other gin brands to develop their image and bottle designs. The pair always talked about bringing their own gin to market as means to mark their legacy. In late 2016 they started to develop a liquid on a small still and naming ideas around why we were creating a gin together. As creative designers in their day job it was important that they had a solid rationale as to why they were on this journey. For this reason, the project came to a stand still after a few months of initial development. A couple of months after they halted the project, Craig & John were lucky enough to be on holiday, skiing, in Hakuba. This alpine region of Japan blew their mind and whilst sat on top of the Kurobishi run in the Happo-One resort, they were inspired to get the project back on track, with the idea to bottling their life-changing experience. Upon their return from Japan in early 2017 the guys worked through almost 40 versions of liquid to perfectly capture the essence of the Japanese Alps, through the complex arrangement of 12 botanicals. Leading with three Japanese natives: Bamboo, Silver Birch & Spruce. The guys worked with a renowned Master Distiller to lock the recipe together and balance the flavour of what is now KURO Gin.
